If your old drums are dragging or fading, this Kodiak 13" disc brake kit is a serious upgrade. The 1-piece hub-and-rotor assemblies use ceramic brake pads and large, stainless steel pistons for fast, responsive braking and dramatically shorter stopping distances. With their vented rotors and automotive-grade construction, these brakes give you smooth, confident control every time you stop.
Rust is a real problem when you tow in coastal or winter conditions. The Dacromet coating on these cast iron hubs, calipers, and brackets provides excellent corrosion protection with a 300- to 400-hour salt spray rating. Even with frequent freshwater or saltwater use, the protective finish holds up far longer than standard coatings, helping your brakes stay safe and reliable season after season.

This setup cuts down on maintenance and saves time compared with typical drum or slip-on systems. The integrated hub-and-rotor design keeps water and debris out to prevent uneven wear or corrosion between surfaces. Fewer moving parts mean fewer chances for failure—no springs, magnets, or cables to replace—just simple pad swaps when needed.

Towing heavy loads or climbing long grades can heat brakes fast. These vented rotors disperse heat quickly to reduce brake fade and extend pad life. That means consistent stopping power even when your trailer is loaded down or you’re driving through tough terrain.

The kit includes two Dacromet-plated hub-and-rotor assemblies with inner (25580) and outer (02475) bearings pre-installed, matching races, grease seals, E-Z Lube caps, (16) 5/8" wheel bolts, and (16) 5/8" zinc-plated steel lug nuts. It’s rated for 8,000-lb Dexter #42 spindles with an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern and fits wheels 16" and larger. A hydraulic actuator rated at 1,500 psi or higher and brake lines (sold separately) are required to complete the setup.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Kodiak 13 inch hub and rotor disc brake assembly set. This is going to allow you to upgrade your trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes so that you can take advantage of the superior performance of disc brakes. This kit is going to include these two brake assemblies so you can upgrade a single Dexter axle with an 8,000 pound capacity and the number 42 spindles. Our rotors are 13 inches in diameter, and as you can see we've got the 8 on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern. So these are going to work for your wheels that are 16 inches and larger.
Our hubs and rotors, as well as our calipers and our caliper mounting brackets all have a Dacromet finish that's gonna offer excellent rust and corrosion resistance, with a 300 to 400 hour salt spray rating. So these are going to be great for your boat trailers and trailers that are used in coastal areas or on heavily treated roads where you're gonna have a lot of contact with salt and that sort of thing. So if you're thinking about good, better, and best, your Dacromet is probably in your better category. The only one that I know of that's better quality would be stainless steel construction. But if you're looking at finishes, a Dacromet is gonna do a really good job, hold up well for you for a long time to come.
And upgrading your trailer from drum brakes to disc brakes is going to have several different advantages for you. One, it's going to dramatically shorten your stopping distance so it'll be a much more effective for you. And it's also going to be much smoother, more controlled ride, so you're not gonna have to worry about that pushing and pulling that you're probably used to with your drum brakes. These do use these ceramic brake pads that will help increase the stopping power. There's also a large 2 1/2 inch diameter stainless steel piston here that provides fast, responsive braking for you.
So it is gonna be an improved performance over your drum brakes and you're also going to have less maintenance than your drum brakes. So it's gonna help save you time and money over the long run. Having the one-piece hub and rotor assembly is gonna reduce the chance of uneven rotor wear. We also have the vented design here that's going to help dissipate heat faster to help prevent premature brake pad wear. So overall, will hold up really well.
These are a high quality automotive grade construction so they are gonna be very long lasting for you. So again, save you time and money down the road. The one caveat with disc brakes is that they do require a higher line pressure. So you are gonna need to make sure that you've got a brake actuator and brake lines that are rated for 1500 psi or higher in order to activate your disc brakes here. So if you don't already have those, we do have them available here at etrailer.com. But they are sold separately, they're not a part of this kit but this kit will include these two cast iron hub and rotor assemblies with the eight pre-installed 5/8 inch diameter wheel bolts each. And then you're also going to get 16 of these 5/8 inch zinc-plated steel lug nuts that will allow you to ensure that your wheel is connected. We'll get the two cast iron calipers as well as the two caliper mounting brackets. These are ductile design and you can see we've got the four-bolt brake flange configuration here, so it is gonna be very easy to get installed on your axle. I do want point out that I do have these mounted on top right now just for balance and display, but when you go to install them, they'll actually be on the side. And so having that side support design is gonna put all the weight on your mounting bracket itself instead of on the bolts, so your bolts are gonna last longer. You are going to get four of these stainless steel caliper mounting bolts as well. And then our inner and outer races are pre-installed. We've got our inner and outer bearings that are included, keep everything rolling smoothly. This system is a grease lubricated setup so you're going to get your grease seals for the inside and then your EZ-Lube grease caps for the outside here to make sure that grease stays in where it needs to be. So like I said, this is gonna be a a great upgrade for you. With that Dacromet finish, it's gonna hold up really well and you're gonna get the benefits of the the disk brake's better performance. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

It was several days late but that is not the fault of your company but a delay by UPS due to severe weather events. I was helped by a person named Eric P. who told me exactly what I needed and what kit to buy. The online install videos were very helpful as I had never done this before.
Everything fit as described. Much thanks to Alex for all his help. Very pleased with my trailer brake upgrade.
They fit just like they should come fast and we’re good
My parts seem to be old inventory that have been moved around in the warehouse for a while. Parts came loosely packaged in a kodiak factory box. Hub/rotor and brackets banging into each other causing scratches on surfaces. The races and bolts that hold the hub/rotor have a bit of surface rust. It's nothing to affect the performance of the parts but it is what it is. A little scotch brite and good as new.
Boat stays slipped used the trailer 4 times and caliper failed already.
Always a helpful crew!
Lauren is great. I wished I would have let her handle everything!!!
Quality is absolutely terrible. The Castings look like rejects. There is massive pitting of the metal. There are sharp edges where the part was cut from the casting trees. The caliper mount bracket is a casting that makes the caliper sit much further inboard than most of the other style brackets. When I tried to mount the caliper to the bracket, after the bracket was bolted to the axle flange. The Rotor inside of the rotor dragged on the caliper bracket. I had to grind away some of the metal of the bracket so that the hub/rotor would rotate freely. Where the rotor is bolted to the adapter, None of the bolts are recessed or set in the preformed holes as they should be. This is obviously very poor China or elsewhere manufacturing. Kodiak(DEXTER) should be ashamed of themselves for selling this junk.
worked well with no probs
Your plastic caps are terrible
They heat up and fall off
It’s a disgrace that you would offer them
The set set should be sold with metal caps
I'm so glad I swapped out these old drums. Installation was a breeze. Yes, I painted the calipers to match the Brembos on my Jeep SRT.
I replaced my drum brake system last year
I was very impressed with the additional stopping power.
I paid extra for the Dacromet material so that I wouldn't have to deal with them rusting during periods of non use.
When I opeed the trailer for the season, this is what I found.
Not happy!
Got them installed but haven't had the time to try them.
Package box had a lot of damage. Bearings were not sealed in any packaging and were loose in the box. Not of the items had damage but I am not use to this type of quality from etrailer. etrailer is a very good company.
I bought the brake kit to repair the Kodiak brake kit that I installed over 10 years ago. I am very pleased with the kit. I lost a caliper and it damaged the rotor. I had a service teck grease my wheel bearings and I suspect he did not use lock tight on the caliper pins and did not thoroughly tighten the pins on one side. Shipping is an issue. The box is very heavy and was badly damaged during shipping. I was sent the wrong kit and received a correct kit a week later. Both shipping boxes were destroyed. Cannibalized one box to fix the other box (lots of packing tape) to return the initial kit.
These rotors and calipers are very impressive, they look better than I expected. Can’t wait to install them.
Kodiak disc brake kits look very nicely made and work well with no issues.
One caliper failed (broke from flange) after 2000 miles. Had to reach out to Dexter for prompt warranty replacement. etrailer was very helpful in getting me in touch with the manufacturer.
Dexter works well but sadly these come with china bearing. I order Timken instead. Wish you could get the best with the best in one package. Probably should be an option. Maybe it is and I missed it.
Perfect fit and much easier to work on, compared to the original Dexter brake assemblies.
Fantastic love it. Worth every cent I paid for it. All big trailer should come with discus brakes standard . Stopping power is like night and day there a big difference.
